"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so." -Acts 17:11

Bible Versions

You will notice on this site that I sometimes list the version that I have lifted the Scripture quote from, while other times I do not. In all cases the quotes are from the KJV (King James, or Authorized Version.)

There are three reasons that I stick with the King James Version. First, it has proven itself in four hundred years and through several waves of great growth in the Church. It is the standard by which all English translations are judged and the version that encircled the world in great waves of missionary out reach.

Second, it is familiar to most every person in the English speaking countries of the world. It has been referenced and memorized and printed and read by more people than all other English translations combined. Most every home in America, Canada, and England have at least one AV Bible in them.

Thirdly, but only slightly less importantly, it is and always has been public domain. It is my opinion that no one should call a translation of the Holy Scriptures their own "intellectual property", which is the intent of a copyright obtained for purposes of profit.

Finally, if you truly believe that you cannot use the King James to read from on a regular basis, may I recommend that you avoid the New King James Version, the New International Version and any of the several other "popular" modern paraphrases. All of these have made compromises that disrespect the Word, mostly for the sake of selling books and making profits. If you have a hard time reading the KJV, you might want to have a look at the Modern King James Version, or the literal translation KJ3.
